During the filming of Blackpool the cast had a lipsync coach, David Morrissey described the process in an article about the series in The Times, November 26, 2004.
"She would sit in front of you as you sang and give you notes about the personality of the singer as well as the technical side. It was a massive excersice: you have the lyrics and listen endlessly to the songs."
The series did shoot for one month on location in Blackpool but the interior of Ripley's arcade was in a North London studio.
