In honor of the Mars landing today, a little trivia from The Waters of Mars.

The episode was filmed from February 23rd - March 19th, 2009.  They filmed at Cemex, Taff Well's quarry, Pentyrch,Cardiff (surface of Mars), The National Botanical Gardens of Wales Hydroponic Centre, Great Glass House, Victoria Place Newport (Adelaide's House), Next Generation Data, Imperial Park, Newport (Bowie base infrastructure and tunnels) and Upperboat Studios.

The TARDIS was on display in November of 2009 back at the Glass House to coincide with the broadcast of the episode.

The original title was Red Christmas and was going to be a festive holiday special. The design of the base was based on the Gerry Anderson series UFO and the name Bowie Base is a nod to the David Bowie song Life on Mars. The episode won a Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation, short form.

You can arrange the letter of the episode title to spell Wars of the Master eluding to his return in The End of Time.
